KakaoTalk video size limit: 300 MB, and how to send a longer video
Kakao's help gives one number for video, 300 MB, and none for length. Here's how long a clip that buys you, and what to do when yours is over it.
As of November 2026, KakaoTalk lets you send a video of up to 300 MB. Kakao’s help gives the same number for the phone app and for KakaoTalk on PC, and no limit on length: what counts is the size of the file.
KakaoTalk’s video limits, as of November 2026
| Limit | What Kakao’s help says | |
|---|---|---|
| Video, phone app | 300 MB | “You can send up to 5 minutes of voice note and 300MB of video.” |
| Files on PC (image, video, voice, archive) | 300 MB each | Up to 300 MB per image, video, voice or archive file |
| Length | Not published | — |
The five minutes in that first sentence is the limit for voice notes, not for video.
What fits in 300 MB?
300 MB is 2,400 megabits. At a given total bitrate, that buys roughly:
| Bitrate | Fits in 300 MB | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 1.5 Mbps | about 25:52 | 720p, calm footage |
| 2.5 Mbps | about 15:31 | 720p, most clips |
| 4 Mbps | about 9:42 | 1080p30 |
| 8 Mbps | about 4:51 | 1080p60, fast motion |
Durations allow 3% for container overhead. Phones often record at higher bitrates than these, especially in 4K, which is why a few minutes of video can already be over the limit. For other lengths, work out the bitrate for 300 MB, and aim for 290 MB.
How to send a video that’s over 300 MB
- Trim it. Cut the clip to the part you want to share. The seconds you drop are the cheapest megabytes.
- Drop to 1080p or 720p. A 4K recording is far more than a chat on a phone needs. At 4 Mbps, 1080p fits almost ten minutes in 300 MB.
- Compress to 290 MB. Leave a little room under the limit.
- Send a long video in parts. Trim it into two clips, each under 300 MB, and send both.
Ninja has no KakaoTalk preset. Choose Target size and type 290 MB: Ninja shows the expected size before anything is encoded, and the compressed copy is checked before your original can be touched.
Why a video can look worse after sending
KakaoTalk has its own video quality setting, in its chat settings. Kakao’s Korean help gives the path as 더보기 → 설정 → 채팅 → 동영상 화질 (More → Settings → Chats → Video quality), and says media backed up to Talk Cloud keeps the quality that was set when it was sent. If what arrives looks soft, check that setting. Compressing the video yourself first means you choose the trade-off, and you can compare the result with the original before you send it.
